About Black Screen Online

Last updated: October 13, 2026

Black Screen Online is a set of free screen tools that work in your web browser. Pick a tool, press start, and your screen fills with a clean black, a solid color, a test pattern or a clock. There is nothing to install and no sign-up, no technical skill is needed, and your settings stay on your own device. This page explains who makes the tools, how they work and what they can't do.

What Black Screen Online does

People usually need a plain screen for a simple job, such as a dark screen for sleep or a soft white light for a video call. Black Screen Online gives each job its own tool, built so anyone can use it.

The tools available today belong to two families:

Screen tests, clocks and timers are planned. They will appear here when they are ready. The site grows one tool at a time, and a new tool goes live only when it is finished and tested. You can find every tool in the menu at the top of each page.

Who makes Black Screen Online

Ali Usman

I'm Ali Usman, and I build and run Black Screen Online on my own. I design each tool, write its code, test it, and write the guide on its page, so Black Screen Online is a one-person website. You can read more about my background on the About the Author page.

The site is independent. It is not part of, or paid by, any screen maker, device brand or software company. A brand named in a guide is there only to help you find a setting.

What I know, and where it stops

What I can speak to

My skill is building these tools, so I can explain exactly what each one does on your screen and why. I know how a browser shows a color, how the tools save your settings, and how each download is made, because I wrote that code.

Where it stops

I am not a doctor, an eye specialist or a screen repair technician. Facts about sleep, eye strain or fixing a device come from published sources, such as health groups and device makers, and I link each one where I use it. I would rather show you where a fact came from than sound more expert than I am.

How the tools work

Every tool runs inside your web browser. When you start a screen, the browser paints every dot on your screen with one exact color. Pure black, for example, is the color code RGB 0, 0, 0, which means no red, no green and no blue light at all.

  • Pure black

    #000000

What you see also depends on your screen. On an OLED screen, where each dot makes its own light, black dots switch off and the screen looks truly dark. On an LCD screen, a light behind the dots stays on, so black can look a little gray. Brightness, night light modes and room light matter too, which is why one tool can look different on two devices.

Named shades, preset colors and default settings are my own picks to cover common needs, not an official standard. A fixed value a tool shows you, such as a color code or a video size, is exact. When a tool makes an image or a video for you, your own device builds the file, and nothing is uploaded to make it.

How I make the tools and guides

I use AI tools to help with parts of the work, such as checking code, researching and drafting. AI never publishes anything on its own. Before any tool or page goes live, I do four things:

  1. I design each tool's screen and controls, then test it myself on a computer and an Android phone. For iPhone and iPad, I follow Apple's own guides.
  2. I check every fact against its original source and link it. If a number is my own estimate, the page says so.
  3. I rewrite the words until they are clear for someone who is not technical.
  4. I read the finished page the way a visitor sees it, on a phone and on a computer.

I never invent users, reviews or experiences. If I didn't do something, the site doesn't claim it.

What this site is not

Not medical advice

Guides about sleep, eye strain or light are general information. For a health concern, please speak to a doctor.

Not a repair service

A screen test can help you find a problem, such as a dot that stays lit, but it can't fix the hardware. For repairs, contact the device maker or a repair shop.

Not a measuring tool

The tools send exact colors, but they can't measure what your screen shows. Color work that must be exact needs a hardware calibration device.

Careful with flashing light

Any tool that can flash asks you to confirm first. Please skip those modes if flashing light affects your health, for example if you have photosensitive epilepsy.

Your data and how the site is paid for

Your data

You don't need an account, and no tool asks for your name or email. Your settings, such as the last shade you picked, are saved in your own browser for next time. They are not sent to me, and clearing your browser's site data removes them. Like every website, this one has a host server that keeps standard visit logs. The Privacy Policy explains it all in full.

How the site is paid for

Black Screen Online is free to use. Where advertising is shown on this site, it helps pay for hosting and new tools. Ads are never placed inside a full-screen tool or next to its buttons, and no advertiser can pay to change a tool or a guide.

Contact and corrections

Have a question, an idea for a new tool, or a mistake you've spotted? Use the contact page or email me at ali@blackscreenonline.com.

If you tell me something on this site is wrong, I will check it against the original source. Then I will either fix the page or explain why it stays as it is. A fixed page gets a new "Last updated" date.
