iPhone & iPad
- Tap Save to Photos, then Save Image. Used Download instead? Open the file in the Files app, tap Share, then Save Image.
- Open Photos, open the black image, tap Share, then Use as Wallpaper.
- Tap Add, then Set as Wallpaper Pair to use it on the lock screen and the home screen.
Android
- Tap Download. The image is saved to your phone, in Downloads, and shows up in Gallery or Photos.
- Open it in Gallery (Samsung) or Photos (Pixel), tap the ⋮ menu, then Set as wallpaper.

Black wallpaper for iPhone and iPad
For a black iPhone wallpaper, choose the iPhone group. It holds 34 sizes, from the newest models and iPhone Air back to iPhone SE. Each size lists every model it fits, so you do not need to know the resolution. For an iPad, choose Tablet to match its wider display.
Black wallpaper for Android and foldable phones
Choose a Galaxy or Pixel size, or try Most Android for a common phone shape. Foldable phones can have two very different displays. Select the main or cover-screen size you plan to change, and check the preview before saving. A picture that fits the inside display may crop on the cover.
Black desktop wallpaper for Windows and Mac
For a black desktop wallpaper, open Mac or Windows & monitors. Choose Full HD, 4K, ultrawide or Dual monitor. Different monitors may need separate files. The dual-monitor choice spans two matching screens. Custom dimensions cover other setups.
Preview your lock screen or home screen before saving
Use the device preview to see whether your clock and icons remain readable. A soft pattern may seem harmless until it sits behind small labels. I added the phone and desktop frames because a design can look fine alone, then crop badly or make labels hard to read. The frame matches the chosen device type, and its clock shows your local time.
Use Lock screen to see your black lock screen with its clock, or Home screen for a black home screen with app icons. Plain shows just the file. Computers have Desktop instead. The frame, icons and clock are only for the preview. They are not included in the downloaded image, so your real device will supply its own controls.

How do you set a black wallpaper?
Download the picture, then apply it in your device settings. Saving a file does not change your wallpaper by itself. The How to set it as your wallpaper guide opens after your first download. It is always beside the preview, with your own device's steps first. Menu names can change with updates.
iPhone and iPad
To get a plain black wallpaper on an iPhone, save the picture to Photos and set it from there:
- Tap Save to Photos, then Save Image. Used Download instead? Open the file in the Files app, tap Share, then Save Image.
- Open Photos, open the black wallpaper, tap Share, then Use as Wallpaper.
- Tap Add, then Set as Wallpaper Pair to use it on the lock screen and the home screen.
iPhone also has a plain black built in, under Settings → Wallpaper → Add New Wallpaper → Color, as Apple's iPhone guide shows. Android
- Tap Download. The picture is saved in Downloads and shows up in Gallery or Photos.
- Open it in Gallery (Samsung) or Photos (Pixel), tap the ⋮ menu, then Set as wallpaper.
- Choose Home screen, Lock screen or both, then tap Set as wallpaper or Done.

Windows and Mac
On Windows, right-click the desktop, choose Personalize → Background, set it to Picture, and browse for the downloaded file. Choose the Fill fit. Microsoft notes that Fill can crop a picture with the wrong shape, which is why a wallpaper sized for your screen matters. On Mac, right-click the file in Finder and choose Set Desktop Picture, or open System Settings → Wallpaper. Follow Apple's Mac guidance if you want a different picture on each display.
Which black is best for a wallpaper?
Pure black (#000000) gives you a completely black digital wallpaper. It contains no red, green or blue, so it is the true full black wallpaper many people search for. Near-black shades can sit more comfortably beside dark gray menus or widgets. I included ten choices so you can match the look of your device rather than settle for one nearly black color.

Does a black wallpaper save battery on an OLED phone?
A pure-black wallpaper may save a little display power on an OLED or AMOLED phone. Each OLED pixel makes its own light and can switch off when it shows true black, which is why people look for an AMOLED wallpaper. Most LCDs have a backlight that remains on behind the picture. Changing only the wallpaper does not switch that backlight off.

The saving depends on what is visible. Icons, notifications and open apps still use lit pixels, and screen brightness also matters. A Purdue University study found relatively modest OLED power savings from dark-mode apps at typical indoor brightness. Choose Pure black if true black is your goal, and treat any power saving as a small extra benefit.
Do you need a black wallpaper in 4K?
Choose a file that matches your screen shape before choosing 4K. Resolution is the number of tiny image dots, or pixels. A typical widescreen 4K size is 3840 × 2160, the same as the Smart TV choice. Full HD is 1920 × 1080, and QHD is 2560 × 1440. Phones often need taller pictures.
Pure black has no tiny details to blur, so a lower-resolution black file may look identical to a 4K or HD black wallpaper. Exact dimensions become more important when you add a photo, Grain, Grid or another style. If the picture shape is wrong, the phone or computer may crop or stretch parts of it.

How do you make an aesthetic black wallpaper?

Fine-tune a style
Open More options: style settings and photo for controls. Vignette has Subtle, Medium and Strong settings. Gradient direction and Spotlight position are adjustable, while patterns have opacity controls.
A quiet home screen
For a quiet home screen, choose Plain, subtle Grain or a low-opacity Grid. For a cool black wallpaper with texture, try Carbon fiber or a stronger Grain. Strong patterns may look attractive on their own but compete with app labels. Each style is drawn on your device at the size you chose, so every file is new and yours.
Add your own photo to a black wallpaper
Place your own picture on the black wallpaper without uploading it. Open More options: style settings and photo, then select Your photo. Fit keeps the whole image visible. Fill may crop its edges. Add Padding to leave space, or Shadow to separate a dark object from the background. These controls help when a face is cropped or an outline disappears.

Can I use this black wallpaper for a YouTube channel or business?

Why does my black wallpaper look gray after I save it?
Start by checking the selected Shade. Graphite, Slate, and other near-black shades contain some color and will not look completely black. Screen type matters too: LCD backlights can make even #000000 appear dark gray, while an OLED screen shows it as true black. Try Pure black with Plain, then compare the downloaded picture on the same device. If the preview and wallpaper differ, inspect the phone's display settings.
Is a black wallpaper good for an iPhone?
Yes, for most people. A black wallpaper makes app icons and widgets stand out, and on an iPhone with an OLED screen, Pure black can save a little battery. If you did not choose a black wallpaper, a black screen or wallpaper is usually a software or display problem, not a wallpaper setting. Restart the phone first, then set your wallpaper again from Settings or Photos. Does a black wallpaper make a phone easier to look at at night?
A black wallpaper replaces a bright picture on your home or lock screen, but it does not darken open apps or notifications. It also does not change the device brightness setting.
