Black Screen Online is a free set of screen tools at blackscreenonline.com, run by one person, Ali Usman. These Terms of Use are the rules for using the website, its tools and its guides. By using Black Screen Online, you agree to these terms, so if you don't agree, please don't use the site.
The Privacy Policy, a separate page, explains what information the site handles and the choices you have.
What the site offers
What does Black Screen Online provide?
Black Screen Online gives you free screen tools that work in your web browser, with no account and nothing to install. The tools belong to four families: black screens, color screens, screen tests, and clocks and timers. Guides beside the tools explain how to use them.
I add, change and sometimes remove tools and guides as the site grows. I try to keep the site running at all times, but I can't promise it will always be available or free of errors.
Is Black Screen Online professional advice?
No. Black Screen Online offers general tools and information, not professional advice:
Not medical advice
Guides about sleep, eye strain or light are general information. For a health concern, please speak to a doctor.
Not a repair service
A screen test can help you find a problem, such as a dot that stays lit, but it can't fix the hardware. For repairs, contact the device maker or a repair shop.
Not a measuring tool
The tools send exact colors, but they can't measure what your screen shows. Color work that must be exact needs a hardware calibration device.
How accurate are Black Screen Online's tools?
Each kind of tool on Black Screen Online has its own limits:
- Colors. The tools use the exact color code listed, such as #000000 for pure black. How that color looks depends on your screen, its brightness and its settings.
- Clocks, timers and alarms. They follow your device's clock and need the page to stay open. Sleep mode, a battery saver, a closed tab or a muted device can delay or stop them. Please don't rely on them where a missed alarm could cause harm, such as a reminder to take medicine.
- Keeping the screen on. A tool can ask your browser to keep the screen awake, but only where the browser allows it. A battery saver or your device settings can still turn the screen off.
- Screen tests. They help you see a problem on your screen, but they don't find the cause or fix it.
- Guides. I check the guides against reliable sources, but they can still contain mistakes or go out of date. If you spot one, please tell me through the contact page.
How can you use the tools safely?
Black Screen Online's tools change what your screen shows, so a few things are up to you:
Flashing light
Any tool that can flash asks you to confirm first. Please skip flashing modes if flashing light affects your health, for example if you have photosensitive epilepsy.
Brightness
A bright white or colored screen can feel harsh in a dark room, so start with your brightness turned down.
Your screen
Leaving the same bright image on some screens for a very long time can leave a faint mark, called burn-in. Follow your device maker's advice on how long to leave a screen on.
Using the content
What can you do with the files you make?
You may use the wallpapers, images and videos you make with Black Screen Online for personal or commercial projects, such as a video, a presentation or a design, with no payment and no credit to me. The files are built on your own device. This permission doesn't give you exclusive rights to a color, a pattern or anything else that anyone can make.
You may also quote a short part of a guide, as long as you link back to the page you quoted.
Who owns Black Screen Online's content?
Unless stated otherwise, the original text, guides, design, graphics, code and tools on Black Screen Online belong to Ali Usman and are protected by copyright. Some parts, such as fonts, icons and website software, are used under their own licenses. The name "Black Screen Online" and its logo identify this website, so please don't use them in a way that suggests your work comes from the site or is approved by it.
Please don't copy the site, its guides or its tools, or publish them as your own. The files you make with the tools are different, and the section above explains how you may use them.
What may you not do on Black Screen Online?
When you use Black Screen Online, please don't:
- break the law, or help someone else break it
- attack or overload the site, or try to break into it
- copy the site's pages or tools in bulk, by hand or with automated tools
- use bots or scripts to misuse the site
These rules don't stop search engines from indexing the site, or assistive technology, such as a screen reader, that helps people use it.
How does advertising work on Black Screen Online?
Where advertising is shown on Black Screen Online, it is provided by other companies, and it helps pay for hosting and new tools. Ads never appear inside a full-screen tool or next to its buttons, and no advertiser can pay to change a tool or a guide.
I am not responsible for what advertisers offer, and if you buy something through an ad, that deal is between you and the advertiser.
Limits and changes
What about other websites and services?
Black Screen Online links to other websites when they help you, such as a source for a fact. A link does not mean I approve of that website, and its own terms and policies apply.
Some optional features may use a service from another company, such as a video player. When you choose one, that company's terms apply as well.
How is your privacy handled?
The Privacy Policy explains what information Black Screen Online handles and the choices you have.
Black Screen Online is not aimed at children under 13, and I don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you are a parent and believe your child sent me information, please contact me and I will delete it.
What does Black Screen Online not promise?
Black Screen Online is provided "as is" and "as available". As far as the law allows, I don't promise that the site, its tools or its guides will be accurate, complete, right for your purpose, or always available without errors.
What is Black Screen Online responsible for?
As far as the law allows, I am not responsible for indirect or follow-on losses that come from using Black Screen Online, such as lost work, lost time or lost income.
Nothing in these terms limits responsibility for death or injury caused by negligence, for fraud, for deliberate wrongdoing, or for anything else the law does not allow to be limited. Your rights as a consumer under the law where you live are not affected.
How will you know if these terms change?
When these terms change, I update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page by hand, and if a change is big, I also show a notice on the site. If you keep using Black Screen Online after a change, you accept the new terms.
What else should you know?
- If one part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies.
- If I don't enforce a rule right away, I can still enforce it later.
- These terms and the Privacy Policy are the full agreement between you and Black Screen Online about using the site.
